Overview

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a comprehensive program designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills required to become effective educators and trainers. This course covers a wide range of topics, including teaching methodologies, curriculum development, assessment and evaluation, learning theories, and instructional design. Students will learn how to plan and deliver engaging lessons, create supportive learning environments, assess learners’ progress, and adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse needs. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical teaching experiences, allowing students to develop their teaching skills and build confidence in the classroom. Graduates of this course can pursue careers as teachers, trainers, assessors, or instructional designers in various educational settings.

Entry requirements

The Learners must:

  • Hold a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification of at least the level above that of their learners and ideally a minimum Level 3 qualification in his/her own area of specialism.
  • Have access to 100 teaching practice hours during which learners have full responsibility for planning, delivering and assessing specific area/s of the institution’s provision.
  • Minimum core of literacy, language, numeracy and ICT
  • Learners must be 19 years old or older at the beginning of the course

Units covered

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training qualification consists of 4 mandatory units plus 8 optional units

To achieve Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, learners must achieve a minimum of 120 credits;

  • 75 credits must be achieved from the mandatory units in Group A, plus
  • a minimum of 45 credits from the optional units in Group B.

A minimum of 61 credits must be at Level 5 (therefore a minimum of 6 optional credits must be achieved at level 5)

The learner will need to meet the requirements before a certificate can be awarded, i.e. achieve the appropriate mandatory and optional units, as well as satisfactorily complete teaching practice.

Mandatory Units: Group A

  • Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training (20 credits)
  • Theories, principles and models in education and training (20 credits)
  • Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training (20 credits
  • Wider professional practice in education and training (15 credits)

Optinal Units: Group B

  • Develop and prepare resources for learning and development (6 credits)
  • Develop learning and development programmes (6 credits)
  • Equality and diversity (6 credits)
  • Evaluating learning programmes (3 credits)
  • Identify the learning needs of organisations (6 credits)
  • Manage learning and development in groups (6 credits)
  • Understanding and managing behaviours in a learning environment (6 credits)
  • Action research (15 credits)

In this unit, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the theories and principles of learning and assessment, behaviour management, and learning and communication that underpin the practical skills necessary to work in education and training.

Unit – 2 Lifelong Learning – Key Concepts
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of the key concepts relating to lifelong learning, exploring key principles and issues involved in delivering this important component of education.

Unit 3 – Resource Management in Education
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of resource planning and procedures. Learners will gain knowledge to underpin management decisions in relation to the allocation and use of human and financial resources, and how to apply resource management concepts in educational organisations.

Unit 4 – Develop and Evaluate Operational Plans for Own Area of Responsibility
This unit helps learners develop, implement, monitor and review operational plans for their own area of responsibility. The ‘area of responsibility’ may be, for example, a department or functional area within an organization.

Unit 5 – Provide Leadership and Direction for Own Area of Responsibility
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of what contributes to successful leadership in educational contexts, exploring influences on leadership direction.

Unit 6 – Reflective Practice and Professional Development
The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of the importance for a practitioner in education and training to reflect on and improve their practice to ensure currency and validity is maintained at all times.
